Miniworld Rotterdam, the largest indoor miniature museum in the Benelux, has permanently closed its doors as of June 8, 2026.
The attraction faced severe financial difficulties, making bankruptcy unavoidable.

Management announced the closure in a letter to suppliers, stating that no visitors or personnel are permitted to enter the 650-square-meter facility.
The museum plans to file for bankruptcy on June 19, 2026, with the Rotterdam District Court expected to declare bankruptcy and appoint a curator on June 23, 2026.
Long-Standing Financial Struggles
According to reports, the miniature museum had been grappling with financial issues for years.
In 2018, management warned about its survival, and the municipality of Rotterdam forgave part of its rental debt in 2021 to prevent a shutdown.
The financial rescue revealed that Miniworld Rotterdam faced payment arrears and struggled to turn a profit even before the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite these challenges, its builders recently contributed to the Miniatuur Museum Amsterdam, which opened in March 2026.

Originally opened near Rotterdam Central Station in March 2007 as Railz Miniworld, the attraction initially focused on model railways before expanding to include detailed miniature models of iconic local landmarks.
Before its closure, the exhibition featured functional mini trains and trams, alongside scaled replicas of the Euromast, De Kuip stadium, Hotel New York, and the Ballentent.
It also depicted recent cultural events, such as Mayor Carola Schouten abseiling from the Euromast.
Director Marc van Buren expressed regret in the letter to suppliers, acknowledging that the museum had been facing severe operational complications for an extended period.
He stated that the immediate operational freeze was necessary while the business prepared its final filings for the court.

The official website and social media channels of Miniworld Rotterdam have updated their notices to reflect that the venue remains closed indefinitely.
