Arie Hazes has expressed severe frustration after discovering the removal of his mother's grave in May 2026, pointing blame directly at his sister-in-law Rachel Hazes.
He learned about the situation during a routine visit to the cemetery.

Rachel Hazes allegedly managed the burial rights but did not respond to official correspondence warning that the lease was expiring.
According to Weekblad Privé, Arie was the primary family member who consistently maintained the burial site.
The sudden clearing of the plot left him entirely shocked and without notice from other relatives.
"I came there regularly," Arie told the magazine. "Around her birthday, on Mother's Day.
I always made a flower arrangement for her. I was actually the only one in the family who still came by."
Arie clarified that he had previously informed the cemetery office ten years ago of his willingness to assume responsibility for the grave rights if Rachel ever decided to drop them.
"Apparently a letter was sent to her with a warning that the grave right was expiring, but it was never responded to.
And no one else received such a letter, even though I had indicated at the office ten years ago: if she stops, I'll take over.
Mom's grave must remain."

The lack of communication from Rachel remains a central point of contention, as a simple notification would have allowed him to resolve the financial obligations immediately.
"Why didn't she contact me? I would have arranged it right away, no problem.
She doesn't need to call me every day, but now a note or phone call would have been enough and then this would certainly have turned out differently," Arie said.
"It eats at me. It just gnaws.
Why let this happen? Why let such a grave disappear without informing anyone in the family?"
The cleared grave belonged to the grandmother of André junior, Roxeanne, Nathalie, Melvin, and other grandchildren, who have now lost the opportunity to visit the site entirely.
"That's intense, isn't it? It's the grave of their grandmother.
Melvin knew her well. André and Roxeanne also a little bit.
