According to Austin police records from December 12, 2019, 33-year-old Heidi Broussard and her two-week-old daughter, Margot Carey, disappeared after dropping her eldest child off at school in Austin, Texas.

Investigators discovered Broussard’s body inside a duffel bag in the trunk of a car parked behind a Houston home on Bo Jack Drive, which belonged to her long-distance childhood friend, Magen Fieramusca.

Authorities reported that Fieramusca had meticulously fabricated a false pregnancy over several months to plot the theft of the newborn, ultimately strangling Broussard to death using her bare hands and a dog leash.

Police safely rescued the infant, Margot Carey, inside the Houston residence where Fieramusca had attempted to present the newborn as her own biological child.

The child was swiftly returned to her father and Broussard's fiancé, Shane Carey, who confirmed the safe return of the newborn in a public family update.

"Baby Margo is home," stated Shane Carey.

Fieramusca was arrested following the discovery of the body and originally faced charges of capital murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of tampering with a corpse.

In January 2023, Fieramusca accepted a plea deal that reduced her charge to first-degree murder while waiving her right to appeal the criminal conviction.

The court sentenced Fieramusca to 55 years in prison on February 2, 2023, and inmate records show she is serving her sentence at the William P.

Hobby Unit in Marlin, Texas.

Fieramusca will first become eligible for parole in 2047, though her maximum prison term extends until December 2074 under the finalized plea agreement.

"We are hopeful that this outcome will bring some closure to the Broussard and Carey families and help them continue their healing process," said José Garza, Travis County District Attorney.

The prosecution noted that the resolution successfully protected the grieving relatives from going through an extended legal battle.

"This outcome will save the families from having to endure the difficult post-conviction litigation process," added Garza.

"We are grateful to our prosecutors and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly on this case and secured justice for the victim's families and our community," Garza further stated.
