The advisory follows an internal power failure at the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant.

City officials established the advisory out of an abundance of caution and in line with guidance from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

The directive targets residents and businesses in the downtown corridor who experienced low water pressure or complete water outages.

Crews are actively monitoring operations and water system pressures across the affected area.

The advisory will remain in effect until official testing and sampling protocols are completed and the water is confirmed safe.

Residents and property owners should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or preparing baby food.

Bottled water is an alternative.

Officials urged extra caution for vulnerable groups, including infants, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

The public is advised not to drink water from public fountains in the affected downtown area.

The department has not set a specific time for lifting the advisory.
