Traffic on Scotland's A9 highway faced major disruptions following a lorry cargo spill and separate police incidents at the Kessock and Dornoch bridges.
The Kessock Bridge section of the A9, which connects Inverness to the Black Isle, was completely shut off to vehicles in both directions due to an ongoing police incident on May 22, 2026.

This closure followed an earlier disruption just north of the bridge at the B9161 Munlochy junction, where a southbound lane was closed after a lorry shed its load sometime before 3:20 p.
m.
According to Traffic Scotland, the southbound carriageway near Munlochy reopened by 3:40 p. m.
after recovery teams successfully cleared the spilled cargo.

Authorities advised motorists to avoid the area during the recovery operation.
These disruptions follow a separate incident earlier in the week on May 20, 2026, when a police response to a concern for a person blocked the A9 Inverness to Wick route at the Dornoch Firth Bridge.
Traffic Scotland reported that all lanes in both directions were fully reopened at 6:15 p. m.
