Stephen Colbert hosted the final episode of the CBS Late Show on Thursday night, ending the top-rated network late-night television program after a controversial cancellation.
The network decided to pull the show despite its number-one position, replacing the 11:35 p. m.

CBS stated that the decision was based entirely on financial considerations, not political motives.
The 80-minute series finale featured comedic appearances from Bryan Cranston, Paul Rudd, Tim Meadows, Tig Notaro, and Ryan Reynolds.

Musician Paul McCartney joined Colbert as the final guest, highlighting the upcoming vacancy of the historic Ed Sullivan Theater, where McCartney performed with the Beatles in 1964.

President Donald Trump commented on the show's end via social media on Friday morning, calling Colbert a "total jerk" and saying he was "finally finished."
