The demonstration targeted severe water cuts, alleged forced evictions, and financial extortion during their semester examinations.
The protest continued until early Friday, May 22, with students gathering on campus roads and raising slogans against the hostel administration, according to reports from The Hindu, Daily Pioneer, and India Today.
Videos and images of the late-night demonstration circulated on social media, drawing widespread attention.
Allegations of Administrative Neglect
The Left-backed All India Students' Association (AISA), which supported the agitation, accused the hostel administration of shutting down water supply across two full blocks and removing chairs from the reading room.
Students facing ongoing semester examinations and national competitive tests like NET and NEET said authorities created intense psychological pressure and practiced institutional apathy.
AISA also alleged that the hostel administration demanded an additional daily fee of 450 rupees from residents wishing to extend their stay through June and July, despite many having already paid regular hostel fees in advance.

Protesters claimed the administration backtracked on verbal assurances given by the hostel Provost during a previous mobilization on May 16.
Following the overnight demonstration, the Delhi University hostel administration issued a signed mandate on Friday morning granting an unconditional residency extension to all residents until June 30.
The mandate also included a written guarantee to immediately restore reading room chairs and mess coolers.
"Administration has declared a virtual red alert, shutting down the water supply across two full blocks and stripping the reading room of basic chairs," AISA said in a statement.
The student group expressed deep dissatisfaction with the administrative choices during a crucial academic period for the female residents.
"This institutional apathy has crossed all limits of human dignity," the student body said.
