It marks another foray into otherworldly themes for Spielberg, who previously directed Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds.

The plot follows a Kansas City meteorologist played by Emily Blunt and a young whistleblower portrayed by Josh O'Connor.

They uncover definitive proof of alien contact, forcing a dilemma over whether to reveal the truth or keep it hidden.

Spielberg's Vision for the Finale

"This story needed to have a couple of jet engines strapped onto it," Spielberg said.

"I wanted that to begin from the very first frame and conclude in a 20-minute finale that would bring everyone to a united epiphany."

Cast member Colman Domingo, who plays Hugo Wakefield, detailed the film's core conflict.

"The movie hinges on the idea that a profound truth has been kept secret from the world," he said.

Domingo added that the cover-up's long history complicates the characters' choices.

"People have become even more invested in keeping that truth a secret because they are too invested in the lives and world they have built."
