A Belfast court denied bail on Wednesday to a 30-year-old man charged with attempted murder following a knife attack that sparked widespread rioting.
Hadi Alodid, a Sudanese refugee legally residing in the United Kingdom, faces charges of attempting to murder Stephen Ogilvie, possessing a knife in a public place on Kinnaird Avenue, and threatening to kill an NHS radiographer.

The victim suffered facial cuts and back lacerations, resulting in the loss of his left eye, according to details presented during the hearing.
Alodid appeared via video link from custody without legal representation but was assisted by an Arabic interpreter.
Judge Condemns Violence
The incident triggered widespread anti-immigrant rioting across Belfast on Tuesday evening, forcing emergency services to rescue families from burning homes and respond to a bus set on fire.
Judge Steven Keown adjourned the case to July 8 after issuing a stern warning to those participating in the ongoing street violence.

"Our thoughts are with the victim and his family at this time, and also the emergency services and the members of the public who went to the victim’s aid," Keown said.
The judge praised the individuals who assisted the victim, noting they should be commended for their actions.
He condemned the attacks on first responders and stated that perpetrators would face serious legal consequences.
"Those attacking emergency services can also expect to go to prison," Keown said.

He added that a clear message would be sent to individuals organizing further masked protests through online communications.
