Two Air India flights encountered emergencies on Thursday, May 21, 2026, involving an engine fire indication during a landing in Delhi and a tail strike during a go-around in Bengaluru.

Flight AI2802 from Bengaluru made an emergency landing at Delhi airport after the cockpit crew detected sparks and received a fire alert from one of the engines.

Air India confirmed that the aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew on the Airbus A320neo disembarked without injuries.

"During the aircraft's final approach into Delhi, the cockpit crew received a fire indication from one of the engines.

The indication was subsequently confirmed as true," said Air India.

The airline stated that emergency protocols were successfully executed by the flight crew to secure the aircraft.

A comprehensive investigation will be conducted with aviation authorities to determine the exact cause.

"The crew followed all standard operating procedures and landed the aircraft safely at Delhi airport. All passengers and crew are safe and have disembarked normally," said Air India.

Tail Strike Incident in Bengaluru

Earlier the same day, Air India flight AI-2651, an Airbus A321-200N carrying 179 people from Delhi to Bengaluru, experienced a tail strike.

The aircraft's tail contacted the runway surface on runway 27L at Bengaluru airport when the crew initiated a go-around due to wake turbulence from a preceding Boeing 747.

The aircraft climbed safely after the impact, positioned for another approach, and landed without further incident about 15 minutes later.
