Early Winners and Notable Returns
The historical record began in August 2000 when Richard Hatch became the first-ever Sole Survivor. Tina Wesson followed in May 2001, and Ethan Zohn won in January 2002.
Hatch later faced legal challenges and was convicted in 2006 on two counts of attempted tax evasion and one count of signing a fraudulent tax return.
He failed to report his $1 million prize, resulting in over four years in federal prison.
Wesson returned to the franchise in 2013 for the Blood vs. Water season alongside her daughter, Katie Collins.
She later hosted survival classes.
