Director Andrew Bernstein Launches Jack Ryan Ghost War Film on Prime
Director Andrew Bernstein has transitioned the Tom Clancy television franchise into a feature-length film with "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War," which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
The film follows John Krasinski as a mid-career Ryan who leaves the Central Intelligence Agency for a private sector job at a hedge fund.

His attempt at a civilian lifestyle is upended during a business trip to Dubai, where he is pulled back into espionage to expose a rogue network called Project Starling.
Practical Filming Locations and Stunts
The production filmed on location to ground the international crisis in reality.
The crew shut down major thoroughfares in London and utilized the waterways of Dubai for an expansive boat chase sequence.
"When Greer comes calling Jack shows up. He can't help himself," Bernstein said.
Bernstein noted that the character remains deeply driven by duty despite his attempt to walk away from his intelligence career.
"Jack understands his life is dedicated to service and fighting the wrongs out there.
While he said, 'I'm going to step away,' a lie detector test would show it would be temporary," Bernstein added.
The production required complex logistics over an extended timeframe to execute the major action pieces requested by the creative team.
"It's like a marathon that took two years.
You know there's an audience out there and you want to make the best version to keep them entertained," Bernstein said.
Krasinski's Involvement and Creative Vision
Krasinski co-wrote the screenplay and maintained a close connection to the original source material's thematic roots.

"John loves this character and is deeply connected to it.
Forget that he co-wrote the script, most importantly he wants to give Jack Ryan his due, by grounding that character in reality and honor what Clancy had in mind," Bernstein said.
Bernstein emphasized that Krasinski's extensive knowledge of the physical filmmaking process served as an asset on a large-scale project.
"It's great to have a character so steeped in that history but also an actor who deeply understands the ins and outs of the filmmaking process.
On a movie this size it's great to have a sounding board who knows all that stuff," Bernstein said.
The production crew secured rare filming permissions in the United Kingdom to stage a pivotal vehicle chase in the heart of the capital city.
