Kontroversi di Pemerintahan AS
Di sisi lain, ensiklik dari pemimpin umat Katolik ini memicu keretakan internal dalam pemerintahan Presiden Amerika Serikat Donald Trump yang tengah gencar melakukan deregulasi AI demi bersaing dengan Tiongkok.
"There is a real possibility that AI will displace human labor at very large scale," duga Olah.
Menteri Dalam Negeri AS, Doug Burgum, mengkritik keterlibatan Paus Leo XIV dalam urusan editorial teknologi global melalui wawancara di Fox Business pada hari Selasa.
"If that happens, supporting those displaced will be a moral imperative of historic proportions," tegas Olah.
Namun, Wakil Presiden AS JD Vance justru memuji pesan Paus sebagai bentuk kepemimpinan moral yang sangat dibutuhkan di awal era AI.
"This task will be difficult enough, but I worry most dialogue misses an even harder challenge," khawatir Olah.
Perbedaan pandangan di lingkaran White House ini dianalisis oleh Profesor Teologi Duke Divinity School, Peter Casarella, sebagai upaya koreksi sikap politik pasca-kritik awal mereka terhadap Paus.
"AI development is concentrated in a handful of wealthy nations," tunjuk Olah.
Kondisi regulasi yang longgar di AS turut dikhawatirkan oleh kelompok pembela keselamatan teknologi karena dinilai mengabaikan dampak sosial terhadap ketahanan keluarga.
"How can we ensure the gains of AI are shared globally?" tanya Olah.
Michael Toscano dari Institute for Family Studies menyatakan bahwa dominasi kelompok kanan teknologi di White House akan segera terbukti keliru dan berisiko memicu sentimen negatif menjelang pemilu legislatif November mendatang.
"We do not have a mechanism for this," keluh Olah.
Hubungan antara pemerintahan Trump dan Vatikan sendiri telah menegang dalam setahun terakhir akibat perbedaan sikap atas isu deportasi massal, perang di Iran, serta penolakan Paus untuk bergabung dalam dewan perdamaian bentukan Trump.
"It is an unsolved problem, and it is the kind of problem the Church has historically refused to let the world ignore," tandas Olah.
Trump sempat menyerang personal Paus Leo XIV di media sosial, sementara Paus menegaskan tidak gentar terhadap tekanan pemerintahan AS.

"The second is the need for moral imagination and ambition regarding human flourishing," tutup Olah.
