The 68-year-old star of 90 Day Fiancé received the official diagnosis in December 2025.

Slatten and her husband, Sumit Singh, learned of the illness after a year of escalating speech and swallowing difficulties.

The diagnosis follows a family history of the disease, as Slatten's father passed away from ALS more than a decade ago.

Slow Disease Progression and Search for Treatments

Medical professionals noted that the disease is progressing slowly. The India-based couple has been researching potential treatments and genetic testing for decelerating medications.

Slatten has joined online communities to seek health information. She hopes sharing her story publicly might bring forward helpful details.

"We're doing what we can," Slatten said.

Slatten first noticed symptoms in December 2024 when she choked while drinking water. This led to migraines, slowed speech, and difficulty swallowing pills.

The couple grew fearful for the future after receiving the final medical confirmation. "That's when we knew something was wrong," Slatten recalled.

Emotional Bond Strengthened Amid Health Crisis

The couple expressed that their emotional bond has strengthened while navigating the health crisis together.

Slatten stated she intends to remain in India to maintain normalcy in her daily life.

"We cried and held each other," Slatten told PEOPLE.

The search for effective interventions remains an active focus for the pair as they cope with the neurodegenerative illness.

"Right now we're just looking and searching," Slatten said.

Slatten also emphasized her desire to prevent the medical diagnosis from changing how people interact with her. "I don't want to be treated any different," she asserted.

"Let's just live our life as we have been while we can."

The connection to ALS was initially discovered by Singh, who researched the disease after a fan commented on Slatten's slowed speech during a December 2025 holiday event in New York City.

"Honestly, I never felt this much love, or I can love anyone this much," said Sumit Singh. "I used to live for myself.

But from the last so many years, I feel like doing things for someone who you love gives you happiness.

I think that's what love is."

The couple concluded by expressing gratitude for their ongoing partnership despite the difficult health circumstances. "And we're happy that we're together," added Slatten.
