The Broadway musical "Beaches" is shutting down earlier than planned. The production will give its final performance on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Majestic Theatre.

The show failed to secure any nominations for the Tony Awards. Originally, it was scheduled to run through September 6, 2026.

"Beaches" began previews on March 27, 2026, and officially opened on April 22, 2026. By closing, it will have played 38 regular performances and 28 previews.

The stage adaptation is based on Iris Rainer Dart's bestselling novel and the 1988 film starring Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey.

The story follows the lifelong friendship between the outgoing Cee Cee Bloom and the refined Bertie White.

Jessica Vosk and Kelli Barrett portray the adult versions of the two friends. Nine-year-old Zeya Grace makes her Broadway debut as Little Bertie.

Producer Jennifer Maloney-Prezioso defended the production despite the early closure.

"Bringing a new musical to Broadway is always an enormous undertaking, and we are deeply proud of this company who created a production filled with heart, humanity, humor, and emotional truth," she said.

The creative team includes directors Lonny Price and Matt Cowart. They noted that audiences responded emotionally to the adaptation.

"Night after night, audiences have laughed, cried, called their friends on the way out of the theatre, and connected deeply with this story of friendship and love," Maloney-Prezioso added.

"That impact is real, and it will stay with people long after the final curtain."

Young Star Zeya Grace Shines in Her Broadway Debut

Zeya Grace, who plays Little Bertie, prepared for the role by watching only the film segments featuring children.

She landed the audition while on a national tour of "Les Misérables."

"I never saw the movie," Grace said. She was cautious about discussing plot details.

"Parts of it are very sad," she noted.

Director Lonny Price said the team chose Grace for her personality and stage presence. Initial rehearsals had challenges because she was losing her primary teeth.

"It's all good now," Price said.
