Richie wore a navy and white polka-dot floor-length dress, paired with a matching headscarf and a white coat.

Kate opted for a strapless black leather minidress, knee-high boots, and simple jewelry.

The outing was the first time the public has seen the pair together since April 2024.

Name Change Confirmation

The appearance also follows recent public confirmation that the teenager now goes by her middle name, Kate, rather than her first name, Harlow.

Richie shared a social media tribute for her daughter's 18th birthday, publicly tagging her with the new name for the first time.

"18 years of you ??? @katemaddenn," Richie wrote.

The post drew supportive comments from family members. Kate's father, Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden, responded: "That's my girl."

His brother and bandmate Benji Madden also commented: "How to make a grown man cry! love you Kate!

You're a bad a--! Never forget it!

Happy 18!"

Richie later explained the widespread online reaction from fans surprised by the name change, noting it was not a recent decision.

"She goes by her middle name," Richie said. "She has her whole life."

Joel Madden detailed the origins of their daughter's name preference during an appearance on Bunnie Xo's 'Dumb Blonde' podcast.

"She's been going by her middle name since she was in like, first grade," he revealed.

According to the father, the preference was entirely driven by the child herself during her early school years.

"She chose it.

She went to school, one day she came home, or we went to the open house night or whatever, and the teacher's like, 'Kate's doing great.

She's so nice,'" Joel Madden said.

Richie on Parenting Teens

Richie previously reflected on raising teenagers during a television appearance on 'Today,' expressing how much she enjoys navigating this specific parenting phase.

"I just so clearly remember being 16, that it's actually surprising how quickly I can go back there," she said.

She noted that her own vivid memories help her connect deeply with the social experiences of her children.

"When my daughter's telling me drama with her friends, I go, 'I remember. Laila Heckmath did that to me,' I remember first and last names, so it's fun.
