Hobson shared the advice on the Glass Half Full podcast on May 19, 2026.

“George told me this when we had Everest. He said, ‘Mellody, with a child, there is no highway,’” Hobson recalled.

Lucas contrasted professional environments with parenting.

He noted that while adults can dismiss colleagues or spouses, a child cannot be put on the highway.

“He said, ‘You live in a world where it’s my way or the highway. You can put anyone on the highway, including a spouse.

You have people who work for you.’ He’s like, ‘It’s my way or the highway, but there’s no highway with a child.

And that is going to be your learning,’” she added.

Hobson praised her husband’s wisdom, comparing him to a wise fictional character.

“I married Yoda’s dad, you know that. He’s very wise, he is,” she said.

She also described Lucas as both a genius and a “crazy uncle.”

“There are a lot of great learnings that come from George. And at the same time — he knows that I say this — he’s your crazy uncle.

He’s both. He’s a genius who’s a crazy uncle, too,” Hobson said.

Hobson described Everest as an observant and reserved child who notices when adults become distracted.

“She’s an observer. She will take in a lot of information.

She’s not chatty with others. She’s very, very reticent when she meets people.

She doesn’t just let you in,” she said.

Hobson contrasted her own outgoing nature with her daughter’s discerning personality.

“I’m friendly to everyone. And she’s reserved, very.

... And, so, she’s discerning, and I really appreciate that about her,” she added.

Everest frequently demands full attention during conversations.

“When I’m talking to her, she’s like, ‘You’ve stopped paying attention to me,’” Hobson said.

The 56-year-old businesswoman noted that her daughter calls her out when her mind wanders.

“She will call me out on it,” she added.

Podcast host Craig Melvin related, mentioning his own children’s reactions when he checks his phone.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my god, you’re right,’” Melvin said.

When asked if she would change any past choices, Hobson expressed regret about not having more children.

“I’m annoyed with myself. I should have had more,” she revealed.

Melvin responded that she is still young, but Hobson laughed it off.

“I’m 56,” she said.

The conversation ended with a lighthearted quote from Everest about her mother’s age.
